Project-Based Learning and Assessment
Posted by: San Francisco Film Society
Project-based learning is a dynamic approach to teaching in which students explore real-world problems and challenges, simultaneously developing cross-curriculum skills while working in small collaborative groups.
Learning takes place in students’ heads where it is invisible to others. This means that learning must be assessed through performance: what students can do with their learning. Assessing students’ performance can involve assessments that are formal or informal, high- or low-stakes, anonymous or public, individual or collective.
Evaluating student performance through a mix of formative and summative assessment strategies will enable teachers to measure learning in real time while also meeting larger guidelines for grading and performance standards.
