If You Build It is a documentary film about a revolutionary model of project-based learning implemented by a team of designers in a public high school in rural North Carolina. A class screening of the film may add a community focus to a social studies or art curriculum, and will encourage project-based learning. Taught in conjunction with this guide, the film will empower students to think critically about community engagement and the meaning of education. Discussion questions and supplemental materials facilitate further research into related topics such as urban renewal, social action, and the structure of public schooling.
