Hellion is a narrative feature film about Jacob, a hell-raising metal and motocross-obsessed 13-year-old, who struggles to cope with imploding family dynamics after his mother’s sudden death. A class screening of the film may supplement a literature and language arts curriculum. The film is a character study with an archetypal plot structure of rising action, climax and resolution. Taught in conjunction with this guide, Hellion will challenge students to think critically about character development and storytelling and to analyze contemporary cinema according to the literary conventions that they learn in language arts classes.
