Phantom Boy is an animated feature film about a boy in the hospital who finds a way to escape his body and helps a misunderstood police inspector solve a crime spree. A class screening of the film may complement an Arts or French Language curriculum, and will encourage students to consider the capacity of animation for metaphoric and fantastic storytelling. Taught in conjunction with this guide, the film will challenge students to think critically about how illness is experienced by children and families. Discussion questions and supplemental materials facilitate further research into related topics such as French film and animation, and the meaning of heroism.
